I have been a Leica M rangefinder camera man since 18 years old, and that is 39 years ago. Leica M rangefinder cameras require manual settings to get the shot right, i.e. focus, aperture setting, speed setting, ISO setting, and even lens setting (for non coded leica M lens) have to be adjusted manually. But if you can overcome this hurdle, you will learn to appreciate how amazing the Leica M glass can capture images. I have both the M9 and the M9-P, but get the M9-P, because of the sapphire screen over the older M9 model.
Leica cameras and lenses are legendary for a reason. The ccd sensor renders spectacular resolution and a rich tonal quality that you need to experience for yourself. Highly recommended.

I generally shoot medium format film - mamiya with provia. However, I wanted to shoot with something a little more portable without sacrificing quality. My nikon is too big and frankly the photos are lifeless without post processing in photoshop or lightroom. I shot with a leica a few years ago and it really blew me away how well the digital format suited leicas. Of course, it's really the lenses...but attached to an M9, they produce pictures on par with my medium format camera, easily. I made the jump and bought the M9, but bear in mind a camera + good starter lens(in my case the 50mm f/2 summicron) will set you back somewhere in the 6-7K range, even on ebay...but what can I say? I love shooting with the Leica - it is a different experience entirely, and frankly I could never go back to my nikon again. If you want a pure photography experience with uncompromising quality, the only choice is the Leica M9.Read full review
I've been using Leica M9 since June 2010. Essentially, this is a digital camera that I had been waiting on since digital capture had become commercially available. It has everything that you need and nothing that you don't. Daily use of Leica M8 and then M9 drastically reduced my need in using medium format, which is very helpful for my constant travels across the Atlantic. That being said, please do not think that this is a camera with a magic button. Everything is done by hand, so you have to know exactly what you want and what to do to get it. Otherwise your frustration will be immeasurable. Especially this is the case for people who are proficient with SLR cameras and no experience with rangefinder workflow. Leica makes you shoot in a certain way, and it is extremely rewarding, once you accept it.Read full review
I have used digital camera for several years, mainly is DSLR but feel boring for the weight size and quality of the glass (even I used Canon 5dm3, ef24-70 f2.8 LII). Also I have heard for reputation of Leica that make me tried one for M9 with 50 mm summilux f1.4 pre ASPH. The result is very good and I will try to release my dSLR/
