Really enjoy this movie. Plot is totally believable and the characters mesh really well. The whole movie is just good fun and had a "feel good" theme.

The dvd was a two-sided disc, meaning that the disc requires flipping to the B-side to finish watching the movie. If this fact was noted in the description, I must have missed it. If I would have noticed this info, I would not have made this purchase. I wanted the movie for my reoccurring movie pleasure. No problem with the movie.

most excellent movie can and wil watch over and over again i saw on cable t.v. and the cut outs and comercials ruined it so i got the dvd and founf the promo one... excellent addition to the box set i also got 1st 10 seasons before they changed characters on the show Case, inserts and 2-sided dvd in excellent condition. Case has original graphics like the non-promo version. In this visually creative space adventure from the team that would go on to give the world INDEPENDENCE DAY and GODZILLA, a timid, glasses-wearing Egyptologist (James Spader) uncovers an ancient portal to another planet and is dispatched there forthwith--along with blundering, clodfooted government troops (led by Kurt Russell). The downtrodden populace they encounter, ruled by godlike, androgynous King Ra (Jaye Davidson, in his first role after becoming a star in THE CRYING GAME), must be led to literacy and freedom; Ra must be defeated; the intellectual must find his machismo; and our boys must return to Earth.Read full review
This is one of the classics of Sci-Fi cinema, a movie that spawned not only a (so far) 10-season television series, but also a second series beginning its third season, as I write this review! I think we've all had dreams about finding an ancient artifact that will give us magical powers or allow us to travel through space (well, maybe its just nerds like me, but nevertheless). Well, that's what happens to infamous Egyptologist Dr. Daniel Jackson, a man on the fringes of the academic community because of his insane theories about aliens and the pyramids. Long story short, he's proved right, and he gets to travel to a distant world where the gods of Egypt still reign supreme, and humanity is nothing more than slave labor. I still recall the first time I saw this movie. I went again the next day, with the same group of friends. I think I saw it five times at the theater in all, a feat no movie was able to duplicate until the LotR series came to the big screen. Needless to say, I highly recommend this thoughtful, exciting science fiction film. Any serious DVD collector should have one in his/her library!Read full review
Stargate is one of those movies that will become a classic - classic sci-fi at any rate. Cute scientist, just a little out of synch with the real world, tough emotionally wounded soldier, fab concept of a gate between stars, and really good plot and effects. James Spader plays the scientist, Daniel, with just that right touch of nerd, while Kurt Russell simmers as the tough as nails but emotionally wrought soldier in charge of the expedition to another world. Spader usually is either the jerk or the really nice guy pushed to the wall; in Stargate he gets to add a little physical humor - especially like the scene with the ox-like critter. If you've only seen the TV series (& it's great) pick up the movie that started it all.
