The major complaint is that this is a very short book comprised of short pieces of varying quality and relevance. Still, Butler was the real deal and we could use ,more like him, now more than ever. Especially, students of history should know about Gen. Butler, and, pssst! any screenwriters out there?

Good recommendation for the nation from a Marine warrior (2 Medals of Honor) who knows war first hand. It documents who wants wars (those who profit from war) and those who pay the price (regular people and combatants). He points out the futility of organizations for peace as long as there is money to be made and proffers solutions. Maybe not perfect but a starting point. This is concise and should be read by everyone interested in why wars happen.

A great book. I wish I'd read this 25 years ago. I intend to read Butler's biography to understand the context of why he wrote this, and to see if he was factually correct in his accusations.
This book will change your views about war. It will show you who really benefits. "War is a Racket" should be mandatory reading in every high school.
