This instructional video is a must for every family with children. It is a fantastic tool to help children identify safe and unsafe people they encounter. Terms are easy for children to understand. The character used to convey this very important message is quite funny and very likeable. The content of the video effortlessly connects kids with new phrases and terms parents can feel comfortable using daily with them. The repetitive characterizing of people as the "don't knows", the "kinda knows" and the "safe side" adults makes ambiguity disappear. In a nut shell, the kids love it and understand it. After watching this video with my kids and the kids I babysit, I felt a lot safer and felt better about their understanding of the dangers surrounding them every day. Buy one for your kids and extra copies for your friends and family members with kids.Read full review
As the father of a 6 and 4 year old I didn't know the best way to approach discussing Stranger Danger. After seeing ads for this video and knowing about the creators I figured I would try it. It is great. My kids loved it as entertainment but also as educational. The theme is easy to understand without being scary. The character is enviting and the HOT TIPS are on target and my kids picked them up and practice them. They understand the difficult concept of Stranger Danger and now grasp better how to watch their surroundings. They like watching and constantly mimic portions of the video. In a perfect world this DVD wouldn't be necessary but we don't live in a perfect world. It is a great way to teach children how to look at the world. I recommend this video to any parent who wants to help their kids approach Stranger Danger with more confidence.Read full review
I have a Master's degree in Education and have seen many many videos aimed at educating children. It does not get any better than The Safe Side! I have incorporated it into all my lessons with students age 5 and up! But at home my 4 year old loves her Safe Side Super Chick! It is well written and the material is presented in a way that is not scary but gets the point across! I recommend this to all my parents, it would make a perfect, fun, and responsible Christmas gift. Also, learn the language of the video with your child. Learn what a "Don't Know" and "Kinda Know" is and tell your child everyone in his/her life, which they are. You will all have fun with this video! Thank you Julie Clark and John Walsh!!!
This is an excellent video that deals with all kinds of safety aspects, not just "stranger safety" alone. I was pleased that the video dealt with other safety concerns, such as approaching strange dogs, etc. My grandson is 6- he found the video very entertaining and he learned very easily from it. He has asked to watch it several times, simply for the entertainment. It is well worded and uses terms, music, humor, and learning techniques that are easy for small children to understand. I would recommend this video to any parent or grandparent looking for educational safety materials.
I bought this DVD with the idea of evaluating it for use in a school setting to compliment a student safety unit. I've found it to be one of if not THE best resource focusing on child safety. It uses friendly images, nonthreatening language and lots of child appropriate humor to make some very powerful points. This is a very fine line for parents to walk as you want to make sure your child is aware without being terrified all the time. I think it would be appropriate for children as young as 3 or 4 and even up to 12 or 13. This would all depend on the depth in which the parents dwell on the concepts with the children. I did wish they had spent a bit more time on the notion of kinda-know people as most research says this is the biggest danger for children. However, all in all it was most excellent. Not only do I plan to suggest it for use in my school but plan to use it with my girl scout troop as well.Read full review
