I've been a huge fan of Lupin the Third for years and even went so far as to watch the original French Arsene Lupin movie from the 30's. When I saw this Lupin movie listed as "rare" I immediately wanted it for my collection. "Missed by a Dollar" has a lot of problems that are immediately discernible for any Lupin fan. First, the English voice acting is not true to the original series. In attempting to modernize Lupin, the changes to Zenigata, Fujiko and Goemon are like a slap in the face. I mean, Zenigata has an iconic voice why change it? Jigen and Lupin's voices are pretty close, I mean close enough to ignore... Second, as with any older series experiencing a "re-birth" Missed by a dollar has some brand spankin' new character designs. The men, Lupin, Jigen, Goemon and Zenigata, look the same, but Fujiko was redesigned to look like the other women in the anime. Bad choice. She lost her impossible figure and gorgeous hair to a trend in early 2000's anime that should have never happened. Third, its hard to watch. The color palate, production values and weird breaks in character keep poking you in the ribs just when you think "well it isn't so bad." Unless you're trying to collect every piece of Lupin memorabilia out there, stay clear of this Lupin movie. They missed their mark by a mile.Read full review
