Product Information

After two successful "Sonic" games on the Sega Genesis, Sega opted for something different. With "Sonic Spinball," instead of platforming gameplay, Sega's mascot finds himself in a pinball machine. When the evil Dr. Robotnik plans on using the Moebius volcano to enslave the world, only Sonic can stop him. By using the Pinball Defense System, the blue hedgehog can thwart Robotnik's plans once and for all. "Sonic Spinball" was released on November 15, 1993, in Europe, and was developed by Sega Technical Institute and published by Sega. "Sonic Spinball" is a combination of pinball and classic "Sonic the Hedgehog" platforming. When Sonic the Hedgehog is on the ground, he can walk, jump, and spin like in his standard games. When Sonic finds himself on the edge of the platform, he can pull himself back up. Align him with a flipper to switch to classic pinball action, smashing him into obstacles and accomplishing goals. The controls are tight with the flippers reacting instantly to a press of the button. Each goal you accomplish, such as breaking open a barricade, will open a new section of the level. The goal of each level is to find the Chaos Emerald hidden inside. Once Sonic the Hedgehog grabs this emerald, he must face a boss. Use the pinball flippers to smash him against the weak points of the boss. After defeating the boss, you will move onto the next level, and in the final level, you'll face off against Robotnik himself.There are four Spinball levels in this Sega Genesis game along with four Chaos Emeralds. Each Spinball level has a different theme, including a sewer theme in level 1 and a geothermal power station in the second level. Each level has its own objectives and unique obstacles and gets progressively harder as the game continues. The blue hedgehog has a trick up his sleeve, as he can tilt the board, which allows him to change his trajectory while in the air, and you'll need these tricks because "Sonic Spinball" is a challenging game. Players start with three lives, and once those lives are gone, it's game over. You can earn extra lives by accruing points and by finding the extra lives hidden within each level."Sonic Spinball" features a different graphical style from its predecessors. The graphics of the characters are more cartoonish, featuring rounded edges and more emotion in their faces. This graphical change is due to the game's association with the "Sonic" TV cartoons, and this game highlights smooth scrolling with no choppiness or flickering. The sound effects on "Sonic Spinball" mimic those of classic pinball machines. From the flippers to the tilt sounds, this Genesis title will evoke visions of an arcade room. "Sonic Spinball" was released before the advent of a rating system, but is appropriate for all ages with minimum animated violence. Gamers of all ages will love this retro title, as it combines a classic mascot with a new twist, providing hours of fun. This software is one game you will play again and again.

    Sonic Spinball for Sega Genesis

    Sonic Spinball for the Sega Genesis is a pinball-like game with Sonic the Hedgehog as the ball! The gameplay is excellent for it's creation time, as all Sonic the Hedgehog games are, and if you learn a few cheats and codes, you can play with zero gravity or start with 9 lives instead of 3! In order to advance to the boss level and pass each pinball stage, you must collect three Chaos Emeralds, except the last level where I believe you need to collect either four or five. Though I have not yet beaten the game, I enjoy it's standard semi-hard difficulty that all Sonic the Hedgehog games have. This game can also be a multiplayer game. The graphics and music are great for the 1990's, quite advanced for that time, too. I am a Sonic the Hedgehog fan and I bought this game to complete my ...

    Sonic Spinball review

    This game is a fancy pinball game. The ball is Sonic and you play in 4 fancy pinball machines, regular video game worlds. This is a great game to have and can be challenging as the ball (Sonic) has a mind of its own and you can't control it most of the time. The final world is very and the most challenging. I first played this game at a relatives house when I was 10 and loved it alot. I owned it years later and will be getting it again very soon. It's a unique Sonic game and I like the pinball atmosphere of it and don't like the final world as much since it's very challenging.

    Pinball / Spinball

    Sega went in yet another direction with this release. Taking Sonic out of his usualy island world and putting him somewhat in a box as a pinball. The graphics are quite nice and live up to sonic's reputation of gaming. Playability is a bit of a bore unless you're a hard core pinball enthusiast, don't expect lots of levels or missions here. You've just got to bounce around. The sound effects and animation, are up to par and pass. Overall i give this a 4/5. :)

    Un classique de type arcade, mais pour les adeptes de jeu pinball seulement

    Je suis un grand fan du sega genesis 16 bits et surtout des jeux incluant le personnage légendaire de Sonic le hérisson. Le jeu Sonic Spinball est rapide, les tableaux sont diversifiés et incluent les éléments des autres jeux de sonic, le méchant Dr robotnik, la quête des chaos emeralds. Par contre, le jeu est de type arcade mais du type pinball comme le titre le stipule. Alors, il faut en tenir compte car le niveau d'aventure n'est en aucun point comparable avec les autres jeux de Sonic, donc avis à ceux qui ne sont pas des fans des jeux pinball.
