This is a fantastic movie which incorporates action and humor. The realism of the movie is very high, being in the bail bond business I can see this actually happening. A brief summary of the movie is Robert Deniro play a disgraced Chicago police man who was framed by a mafioso (Dennis Farina). Charles Grodin was an accountant working for Dennis Farina who thought he was working for a legimitate firm. When he discovers that he is actually working for the mob he imbezzels $15 million and gives it to charity. Meanwhile, charged with imbezzelment he gets a bondsman (Joe Pantoliano) to post bail. Afraid that Denis Farina will have Charles Grodin 'rubbed out' Joe Pantoliano hires Denerio to find him and get him back to LA before the midnight Saturday deadline. And to hedge his bet he also hires another bounty hunter to do the same. As all this is going on, The Feds are trying to find Charles Grodin to testify against Dennis Farina and they want custody of Grodin. This mix make for a great movie but the language is the only thing that prevent this from being a family movie. The 'F' Bomb is used almost constantly. I would recommend this movie for anyone who likes a movie full of differnet kinds of action.Read full review
Excellent and funny movie about an ex-cop turned bounty hunter in LA. His sleaze-bag boss is about to lose a million dollar bond to forfeiture. He needs Jack Walsh (Robert DeNiro) to find his fugitive and bring him back to LA before three days. To Walsh, LA to NYC and back is a Midnight Run. However, this is not just any fugitive, he is Jonathan Mardukas, (Charles Grodin) the Duke! He stole $15M from Jimmy Serrano, Chicago mob boss, and gave it to charity! Now Serrano has a $500K bounty out for him, and the FBI wants him too to testify against the mob. Walsh tracks him down to NYC and goes there and snatches him. He tries to put him on a plane and this is where the trouble starts. His passenger, supposedly, is too afraid to fly and the airline kicks them off when he acts crazy. Now they must travel across the country on the ground. This leads to one laugh after the other. Between the FBI and another bounter hunter named Marvin, Walsh is screwed from every way to Friday, not to mention the Mob who is willing to pay anyone to get Mardukas. Jack had been a good Chicago cop years ago, but was framed by another cop who was working for Serrano. He was discredited and fired, and his wife left him taking his daughter. To add insult to injury, she married the crooked cop who framed him. Walsh has every reason to hate Serrano. When Mardukas is taken by the Mob, Walsh devises a plan to get Serrano and gets the FBI to go along with him. He tells Serrano that Mardukas detailed everything when he was the Mob accountant and put it all on a disk that he will turn over to the FBI, if he doesn't give Mardukas back. Without the evidence, Mardukas's testimony would be worthless. Serrano agrees and the switch is supposed to happen in Las Vegas airport. Just for showing up, Serrano will be guilty of kidnapping and conspiracy and racketeering, and attempting to destroy evidence in a Federal investigation. This makes it a RICOH case. Serrano shows up with Mardukas and is taken into custody. Walsh and Mardukas make it back to LA with about an hour to spare. Jack calls his sleaze-bag boss, who screwed him all the way from NYC by sending Marvin, after Mardukas too, to tell him that he was in LA. His boss is elated, but Walsh then tells him to say good-bye to Mardukas, because he is letting him go! He tells Mardukas to get lost and have a good life. . . Mardukas is so overcome with gratitude, he pulls out a money belt that he had been wearing all along with about $200K and gave it to Walsh. To Jack, it was always about getting even with Serrano. Now he has, and the information on the disk will take care of the crooked Chicago cops too.Read full review
Saw movie back and 1989 and bought VHS and watch several times. Been 10 years since I watched movie so I bought DVD. The movie still holds up to this day. It's a gut busting funny cross country action thriller with Deniro, the late Charles Grodin and Yaphet Kotto. 5 stars.

This is a great buddy movie starring some terrific actors. DeNiro and Groden have great chemistry together, the supporting cast is tremendous, and the plot moves along seemlessly with no fluff or filler material. You'll be amazed at how many actors you recognize from this movie. This movie has comedy, action and heart. I don't know a guy who doesn't love this movie, and women seem to enjoy it as well. Not for the kids though, as it has a LOT of swearing in it. Could've made a nice sequel of some sort to this one, but maybe it's better that they didn't. Wouldn't want a bad sequel to blemish a perfect movie.
DeNiro and Grodin made a great team in this movie
