I'll probably wind up buying this Blu-ray edition for the significant special features, after owning the DVD version that only includes one extra feature. This film's so collectble buying the Blu-ray format seems essential for any collector. Meryl Streep takes the lead and steals the show with it, at age 65yo no less, playing, live for the first time, an electric rhythm guitar while singing rock song classics such as Tom Petty's American Girl; Edgar Winter's Keep Playin' that Rock n Roll; and Bruce Springsteen's My Love Will Not Let You Down (the short list!). Harmonizing with Rick Springfield, who plays the lead guitar, these live concerts make the film exceedingly real. That Ricki is a past middle age hippie who's been separated from her adult children since they were kids is the axis around which the plot, written by Diablo Cody, turns. Directed by Jonathan Demme (who directed Silence of the Lambs), His attention to the details of authenticity and honoring the screenwriter's script pays off by turning in yet another doubtless classic.
