I had a steel guide rod replacement for my Mustang Lite so didn't hesitate to get one to replace the plastic in the steel Mustang I just picked up. It stiffens the action and in my opinion provides a more consistent slide return. It's an easy swap.

beats plastic, fer cryin out loud
It was a gift to a person who was havin trouble with his Mustang, which still had that stupid plastic guide rod. I haven't spoken with him since I got this steel one but if it's anything like mine, It'll be a great improvement. I can't imagine anybody runnin a plastic guide rod in anything.
