I have been a fan of Keane since 2004, but they have sort of crept into my life, Hopes and Fears was EVERYWHERE in 2004 (in the UK) it was impossible to turn on a radio without hearing songs from it. Although i had the cd in my collection it didnt get repeated spins. In 2006 Under The Iron Sea was released, and as i had the last album, i bought the new one, on the day of release, however for some reason i never listened to it, i just put it on a shelf, and never got around to it! About six months later i heard a track on the radio, so i dug out the cd and listened, i was really impressed. I then when to see them play live and was equally impressed. So i was awaiting the new album with excitement, having in the interim period of 12 months sought out some of the 50 b-sides that are around the net, b-sides, live versions, demos, all to feed my need for Keane! At the start of August 2008, we got an email, that a new Keane track would be available for download, Spiralling was released a couple of days later, and it was a change in sonic direction, for a band of a singer, drummer and keyboard player, the use of guitars was a surprise, Keane are a band which arent afriad to try new things, and like everything, some of it works on this album and sometimes it just doesnt. The best tracks are songs like, Spiralling, The Lovers Are Losing, You Havent Told Me Anything, You Dont See Me, and the title track. But almost as good are songs like Again & Again, Better Than This, and Love Is The End, Black Burning Heart. Some songs dont work though, songs like Playing Along, dont seem to be as affective, what is good about the album is that it is fairly upbeat.
