The Mec-Gar 8 round nickel 1911 magazine, at $21.99, may be the best value among upper-echelon 1911 magazines. This group includes the Wilson Combat 47D, the Kimber Kim-Pro Tac Mag, the Tripp Research Cobra mag, and the Chip McCormick power mag. I've used the Wilson Combat and the Kimber, both excellent mags, and the Mec-Gar is comparable to them in my view while costing somewhat less. Like them, it has an anti-tilt follower with an upper surface that makes it easy to load. The action is very smooth and I have experienced no failures while using it. The base plate is removable for easy disassembly and cleaning, although it is like the 47D in not giving the user a choice of plate designs (the Kimber tac-mag has three). I don't find that much of a problem, but some might prefer a magazine with a flush base plate (that is, flush with the bottom of the pistol).
