We wanted to clean up our living room and move our tower speakers elsewhere, however, we did not want to sacrifice much sound quality. We also wanted to be able to use our excellent AV receiver, with its many inputs and outputs and feed to our whole-house amplifier. Therefore, we didn't want to go with the typical powered soundbar which would have just added more devices and confusion, while limiting our flexibility. This Canton passive soundbar was THE PERFECT solution. First of all, the deal was fantastic; you could barely buy a no-name soundbar for this price. Secondly, it was brand new, as advertised and is built with stunning quality, fit and finish. It fits perfectly in our entertainment center and looks great. I actually stare at it rather than the TV! I added 3 little self-stick rubber nubbies to keep it from rocking on the shelf because the body is curved and was designed to be wall-mounted, but that was a quick and cheap solution. Speaking of rocking! This speaker sounds great. It has very crisp and bright highs and enough midrange to make it ideal for TV watching. With only small drivers it will not produce bass notes effectively, nor should you expect it to. I knew this going in and paired it with a powered sub to fill in the low end. With this combo, we have not only better high-end reproduction, but also better bass than we had with the old speakers. Mid-bass could be a bit better as there is a gap between how low the Canton can go and how accurately the sub can reproduce mid-bass frequencies. For TV and casual listening sessions, it's more than acceptable though. I own a decent amount of vintage Klipsch, Boston Acoustics and Advent speakers and this Canton is on par with those, clarity-wise.Read full review
