I read the reviews before I purchased this watch and from my own experience I know they didn’t have the proper removal tools as I didn’t, but after receiving the watch I purchased my battery at Wal-Mart for just over $6.00. The rear lid is about the size of an American nickle, 21 mm. There’s a small slit at the edge of the lid, 3mm. To prevent popping out and scratching your watch use the TIP of a small pocket knife or a small flat screw driver tip to pop off the back to expose the battery well. Insert your new battery and now you have a new gem of a watch. Putting the back of the watch back on is a bit of a pickle. I used a U.S. Quarter dollar coin with a wash cloth under it to prevent damaging the back cover. After lining up the back cover over its spot I used a small rubber mallet to pop it back on. It took me about five tries to learn the right amount of “UMPH” to swing with the mallet but I got it. YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS. YOU WILL BREAK THE FACE CRYSTAL IF YOU PLACE IT ON A FLAT SURFACE. I have three watches in my bedroom drawer from being stupid and breaking the glass and two in the shop for the same reason. On this watch I picked through my tools and came out with a 7/8” socket to lay it in to prevent breakage. By the way, I’m buying a watch back removal tool, the prices vary from $1.95 and up on ebay. Lay a wash cloth onto the hole of the socket with the watch face down. Then the back of the battery cover with another wash cloth. With your index finger and thumb hold onto the edges of the watch and begin to try your hammering pressure lightly at first and so on. REMEMBER, I said a small rubber mallet. Enjoy your beautiful new watch as I will. Tony King Retired DAVRead full review

BE CAREFUL! Great price for a Skagen but so far two watch repair shops could not put in a battery. The case is difficult to open, and even harder to close because of the design and the chrystal which is full width of the watch face and is not compatible with standard watch repair tooling, because pressing the case closed will break the face. I would not recommend this item.

It is a beautiful watch, thin, and stylish. I am just a standard user and able to pop the back open, put in a new battery on my own. I am getting a couple more for Christmas present. There are smaller diameter available too. The back was a bit tight. Make sure to use tool with leverage and take some caution to protect the watch from getting scratch.
