The year my JD 318 mower was made they offered a firing system that was points or electronic, so make sure you know which system you have before you buy a coil. This coil works fine. The actual JD replacement coil cost over $160. This coil is very short, but it did mount into the old coil mounting bracket. The other thing is the standard spark plug wire caps that fit over the coil are too big. There maybe be other rubber caps available to make the seal, but mine still worked, I just keep my mower inside, so moisture isn't a issue.

Product worked but I had to come up with different plug wires because it isn’t a direct replacement so the style wire it takes is completely different. Wish I would have been informed this and could have ordered the correct wires right away for less down time.

Coil is a bit smaller - a bit in the diameter and by about 25% in overall height to an OEM coil - but I was fully aware of this before buying and a small piece of 1/8" rubber between the coil and the mounting bracket cured this easy peasy. Price for this product is Awesome and after installing this coil and a new set of points ( pre-cautionary measure for our own peace of mind ) the getset unit fired right up and ran great! Many thanks to this ebayer for a great product at a great price.

Works correctly with POINTS style ignition and kind of fits in the original hole - clamp. I added a scrap of aluminum flashing around the body of this to get the clamp to tighten down, This is smaller in diameter than the original metal can type. Appears to be epoxy filled so hoping it will last..

I had a miss or pop on my JD 318 with the B43 Onan. I replaced the coil, plug wires, points and condenser. Thing runs better that it ever has! This coil work just fine and fit into the original bracket. But this will not reuse the original plug wires. You will need a newer style with brass plugs on the ends. It would take the plug wires for a Onan P engine not B.
