Phaser Patrol (Arcadia/Starpath Supercharger) for ATARI 2600 is one of several space exploration games where you keep track of a grid full of bases & aliens (it was originally the "pack-in" game that came with the Supercharger: 1982 retail price $89.99). It is generally regarded as a better game than Starmaster, Star Raiders & even Stellar Track (all are good games, though), because of the highly detailed graphics and superior game play. The ability to lock-on your weapons makes a "kill" more likely, if you can maintain your reticule on the target long enough. Of course, the fact that the enemy ships look like old Star Trek Klingon battle cruisers is really a PLUS! The Supercharger's ability to enhance the system RAM makes offers grpahic details that can't be matched in regular ATARI games. This applies to EVERY Supercharger game, as well as Phaser Patrol. The only "negative" is that these games were originally on cassette tapes. This required using a tape player to transfer the data to the Supercharger & made them subject to breaking from repeated usage, unless you have the CD versions of the games (which I have). If you are considering owning a Supercharger to your collection, it will really add some great game play to your 2600 library & it might even make some of your friends...jealous!Read full review
