Sometimes I need to use my work laptop at home, but I don't like using the track pad for extended sessions, and the laptop monitor is too small. My cube at work is fitted with this exact same model docking station (aka "e port replicator"), and so I went to eBay to find a cheap one for home use. I didn't want to ask my employer to buy me a new one, although I suppose they would have paid for it. So this Dell Pro3x docking station really fits the bill. Just like at work, it only takes a second to pop the laptop onto the docking station and I'm ready to go -- no need to spend minutes connecting mouse and monitor. Be aware that this purchased did not include the power cord --or any other cords for that matter. Still, very good price for a perfectly usable docking station!

This unit was quite a bit different and my last docking station which was an IBM ThinkPad T 40. Lots of USB ports which is good and thus far the only complaint is I have is the use a dell (large current) power supply to power the unit up. They could have easily just installed a power supply internally which would allow the use of the regular power cord so my desk is very cluttered.

Works just as it should. Laptop attaches and detaches easily. Has all the connections expected. One quaint problem. I use this with a DELL LATITUDE E4310 13.3" and when docked, the power plug connector on the laptop is at the same location as the USB connectors on the docking station. This means that I have to plug in the laptop before I dock the computer and can not use the top USB connector.

I recently at work now have the need to move my laptop to another part of the building on a daily basis. It's connected to, among other things, two monitors and a LAN cable that's necessary for one application to network (wireless is not usable in this case), Unplugging and re-plugging on a daily basis has quickly become annoying. The replicator not allows be to disconnect or reconnect in about one second. It even offers more USB ports than the laptop. The only (slight) glitch is I was using the VGA and HDMI ports on my laptop for the two monitors, and the replicator does not appear to have HDMI. But it did have a DVI port. I was using a VGA-HDMI adapter for one monitor;now I simply use a regular DVI cable. There was also a slight delay in usability as the laptop searched for and installed the USB drivers.Read full review
