Current slide {CURRENT_SLIDE} of {TOTAL_SLIDES}- Best Selling in Oboes
I've heard all the horror stories about cheap instruments bought online, but I thought I would give it a whirl and just see ... if the oboe played half as well as the description claimed, it would be good value for money and handy to have a synthetic instrument available as a backup (I play a Loree AK bore normally). I'm sad to report the instrument was unplayable. Many of the keys were badly bend during shipping and the oboe was very badly out of adjustment. Even after correcting these issues, I found the intonation to be quite poor and the tone quality inconsistent, at best. I've been playing the oboe for over 20 years and found it very difficult to produce anything that would resemble music ... I shudder to think about a beginner band student with this instrument. In the world of musical instruments, you really do get what you pay for. There is just no way around it. Even student model oboes are expensive, but by going with an established manufacturer, you know you're going to get an instrument that plays well, is in tune, and will allow a student to learn and grow. Yes, the student model from Yamaha, Selmer, Fox etc are 5x (or more) expensive than this one and have less keys, but the quality is at least 10x greater. Read full review
