Love this movie.....I have for years whenever I've seen it....so good! My sister hadn't seen it ever, so I decided it was time to add it to my dvd collection in time for her visit. She loved it too.......no surprise to me! She may be getting it in time for her birthday this year as part of her gifts. Love it!

This film is a fantastic movie for a few reasons: 1) It perfectly portrays mental illness for what it is, without making the ill person out to be some kind of freak or monster. 2) It breathes new life into the charming ghost of Buster Keaton, one of the greatest minds in Film and Theater of all time. 3) The character development and on set chemistry between all of the characters is very believable. 4) The music is delightful. 5) It's like a quaint trip down memory lane as to life in the late 80s early 90s, before ipads and drone warfare.

OMG, it's Johnny Depp. He's an absolute clown in this movie and a genius pulling off Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin stuff. It's also a love story, I recommend it to anybody.

Early Johnny Depp in an unusual romance. It's my new favorite Valentine movie as a brother learns how to help his mentally unstable sister with her choices.

I came upon this moving picture by accident during one of my channel surfing ventures. Coming in in the middle is not always the best way to grasp the plot, but the bit that was being performed was so enchanting, so delightful, so precious, and so poignant that I watched for a little while longer and then hit the keyboard to get the DVD all to myself - and family. I won't say that it is a 'once in a lifetime' film experience, but it comes very close to it. The characters are so well drawn, so well acted, and so temperamentally suited to their roles that the whole thing works in a miraculous fashion. The focus of the plot is difference, and the differences between the three main characters are so wide that it is a wonder that they rub together as well as they do. Yet it is the differences that make the difference, as three lives become interwoven in such ways as to enrich all three in ways that are miraculous. Predictably, tensions arise through perceived conflicts of interest, mistrust, and misreadings of the motives of others. Yet it is by the emotionally loaded highways and byways of selfishness, protectionism, the urge to liberate, and the need to be loved that everyone's soplution is discovered in the mix. It is a three-way-win-win situation that leaves everyone happy. Sam Goldwyn when asked what message a film he was producing had, replied, "If I wanted to send a message I'd use Western Union!" Yet there is a clear message in Benny & Joon whether intentional or not: it is that we do not have to be clones of each other to get along swimmingly, and if we embrace our differences instead of beating them into barriers, not only will we be happier, but the world will also rest easy. If you haven't got this film, get it! If you already have it, then get another! You can never have too much of a good thing, and this is a very good thing.Read full review
