Winner of both the Hugo and Nebula awards, this is one of the best science fiction novels ever written, not "fantasy" but true science fiction with scientific resolutions of threatening situations. A response to America's participation in the Vietnam War, it examines the reasons for going to war and the consequences of fighting one. This edition contains the dystopian novella at the center not in the first printed editions though part of the original composition. The book is also a good war novel. It's non-graphic references to sexuality seem unnecessary at first but turn out to be vital to the book's meaning. Not positive in its thrust, the story can also be thought ultimately hopeful.
I like this book.

Well writen futuristic anti-war (Vietnam)novel.. The premise of a never-ending conflict with characters that only get discharged from service by death or dismemberment is the hook that draws you in. You will start to feel real empathy with the characters. The conclusion is much like all conflicts, a simple mis-interpretation of facts and misplaced nationalist zeal.
A Sci-Fi classic, Not to be missed. Interesting look at the space/time dilemma. I highly recommend this book for all who enjoy a good story, told well.
